India’s Ladli Foundation Trust gets special status at UN’s ECOSOC

New Delhi:

The Ladli Foundation Trust, a social organization known for its unique efforts for the upliftment of women and needy people at the grassroots across the country, has been given the status of Special Consultative Institution in the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC).

During the UNGA in January, a number of selected names were discussed from across the world, in which the name of Ladli Foundation Trust was proposed unopposed from India for this special status, on which the final decision by the Council has been given recently, wherein the Ladli Foundation Trust officially achieved the recognition.

After receiving this special honor, the organization will be allowed to represent and give written suggestions to the United Nations on the subjects related to the Council. The trust will also have the privilege of making a seven members delegation that can attend meeting at the United Nations Headquarters, New York, Geneva, Vienna and other regional headquarters.

The Ladli Foundation has directly benefited more than 6 lakh adolescent girls and women, through mass marriages, adult education, medical camps, and personal hygiene kits distribution through its active units in more than 50 districts of the country, along with Delhi Police. Meanwhile, together, by making more than 5 lakh youth aware on social issues, thousands of youth have been saved from the clutches of drug and crime through sports.

The founder of the Ladli Foundation, Devendra Kumar Gupta, told Democratic Accent that his organization has been selected for this important position by the United Nations for its intensive work style and ground-breaking implementation of unique projects based on its (organisation’s) key vital researches on the above mentioned topics.

It is worth mentioning that the ECOSOC is at the ‘heart of the United Nations system’ to advance the three dimensions of sustainable development – economic, social and environmental. It is the central platform for fostering debate and innovative thinking, forging consensus on ways forward, and coordinating efforts to achieve internationally agreed goals. It is also responsible for the follow-up to major UN conferences and summits.
