NCRCH successfully conducts surgery on Syndactyly syndrome

Surgery department of Central Hospital Prayagraj achieved yet another feather in its cap, when today 18-years old Raiyan was declared fit after he underwent an operation on 12th July to get his two fingers separated which were joined since his birth.

The condition is called as Syndactyly, where two fingers are abnormally connected with each other.

In this case, Reyan’s ring finger and little finger were abnormally connected as a result of congenital deformity.

Raiyan Afzal, son of Afzal Ahmad, Station Master Prayagraj was feeling emotionally low and handicapped due to his congenital condition which had worsened to an extent that blood supply of the two joined fingers was being derived from the adjoining finger as the joint part had been damaged to a great extent.

After consulting at various hospitals, Afzal finally decided to go ahead with the surgery of his son at Central Hospital.

The surgery, medically called as Syndactyly release with Palmer Artery Graft was done on 12 July by a team of doctors led by surgeon Dr. Sanjay Kumar. Dr. Rupa Kapil, Medical Director remained present herself and administered anesthesia during the surgery.

It was a two hour long surgery assisted by Dr Mohammad Usaid, Dr Alok Kumar Yadav, Matron Rooth Singhand Nursing Assistant Smt Manjoo Devi Sonkar.

“After the surgery, patient was called every second or third day for follow up for removal of stitches and change of dressing”, informed Dr. Sanjay.

“It was his eighth visit today when after a thorough check up we finally relieved him as he is completely normal now and our surgery has resulted into a success with a smile on the face of Raiyan”, he added.

Afzal Ahmad has thanked the doctors and the staff for giving a new breeze of life to his son.

General Manager NCR Pramod Kumar has congratulated the team of doctors for this success. “Every smile counts for us”, says Kumar.
